‘Dark Phoenix’ Is the End of an ‘X-Men’ Era

Vanity Fair: “In the final days before it’s absorbed by Disney and potentially folded into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the X-Men film franchise will take one more stand with Dark Phoenix”

CBR: “Disney previously signaled its intention to release every Fox film completed or in production by the time the acquisition is finalized. However, the entertainment conglomerate is expected to scale back production on pricier projects and those that don’t fit into the company’s family- and franchise-friendly formula.”

Forbes: “Dark Phoenix may be a kind of series finale to the 18.5-year old X-Men franchise prior to the Disney deal which would bring those characters under the umbrella of Kevin Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

TheMarySue: “The trailer for Dark Phoenix came out this week. It is the last installment in the 20th Century Fox X-Men universe before Disney/Marvel eventually relaunches the franchise.

It’s hard to believe that the X-Men universe we know today is as old as a senior in high school right now, but the 18-year-old series has been mostly a failure with one of the biggest failures being the 2006 film X-Men: The Last Stand. Those are just a few. if you want more, search it yourself.

That said, in 2020 or so, the X-Men will finally be in the MCU timeline. Therefore, everything is going to be entirely rebooted and starting from scratch. A new fresh era of the X-Men will begin from this point forward. I’m talking about where we can see the O5 as the core members and suddenly becoming a story for the Krakoa event. Here is where we get to see how the X-Men first gathered and became the X-Men we forever (knew) know today. Just saying since Marvel usually wants to make the comics more like the movies. Perhaps the Krakoa story line can be a fresh start? If Marvel’s going to introduce the X-Franchise as a fresh start it will has to begin with the Krakoa event because it can be offered up in the memory of Len Wein who passed away not too long ago and Dave Cockrum who were the reason for the X-Men we know today. 

Maybe we get to see Havok, Polaris, Banshee, Warpath, Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler and Sunfire in this new era for the Krakoa event. Bold characters are the characters that FOX hasn’t used and will give Marvel a chance to explore them in the MCU before meeting Magneto. Yes, I know, Polaris is in The Gifted where FOX/Marvel are doing a really good job with her character but that’s a different timeline, taking place after the DOFP events. Speaking of Polaris, there are many things FOX failed to introduce that Marvel can now look into and introduce them in the MCU after X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which might be the last “X-Men” film before they join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

1. Marvel can now carry out properly the introduction of the O5 and furthermore, the introduction of Magneto and his daughter, Polaris who became the sixth member to join the X-Men.
2. As I mentioned, we have Krakoa, where Polaris took the big stand and saved the day. Not only that, but this is where all the interesting XM started.
3. FOX never took the X-Men into space and Marvel now can take the stand to do so. This will lead us to the Shi’ar Empire, where Eric The Red made Havok and Polaris as his crew members of the Shi’ar. Maybe even introducing the Starjammers? It’ll be a fun ride, trust me.
   
4. Another thing FOX was unsuccessful in achieving, one of the most iconic stories from Chris Claremont, was the INFERNO. The introduction of Mr Sinister. FOX had failed yat again in their attempt to secure this one. This is something I’m sure Marvel is planing to dig up. We might get to see Polaris leading the Marauders as Malice. Because in this story, Claremont has Polaris as the central character after Mr Sinister.
5. Then we have another epic team called The X-Factor, where Havok and Polaris took over as the team leaders. This is another great opportunity for Marvel to introduce Havok, Polaris (as leaders), Guido, Wolfsbane, and Mutiple Man. Though last year there were a reports that James Franco would be producing and starring in his own superhero movie in Fox’s XM universe. I don’t know how that’d play since Marvel is taking over but I do know Marvel wants FOX to release all their films they have in development before Marvel takes over. I agree, since there can’t be 2 Marvels.
   

The only think that I don’t know how will work in the MCU is the House of M. I don’t know how that’d work knowing the twins aren’t Magneto’s kids, let alone are no longer mutants. In my perspective, maybe Marvel can add a few random kids besides Polaris to be his kids for that timeline specifically. Or maybe have Scarlet Witch going crazy into wanting to bring her brother back and created the House of M so she can be with her brother. I don’t know. It’s just doesn’t make sense, but I would like to see a House of M movie.

All I know is that I can’t wait for Marvel to reboot everything and make a fresh start by using stories that FOX never got the chance to use. Inferno, X-Factor, Shi’ar, Starjammers, and Krakoa come to mind where Havok and Polaris are mostly in all of them.

PS: If you don’t like the idea of Havok and Polaris together well that’s your problem and your opinion. Let us preface with this that yes, I’m aware that you have every right to your opinion. However, your opinion probably doesn’t matter, even when you think it does. Most of the time, my opinion doesn’t matter. And neither does yours. Opinions are great. We all have them. Your opinions have no basis in defining what you’re all about. They aren’t the truth. They have no purpose other than to hurt or harm the characters you pretend to like. There is no rhyme or reason beyond making the other characters feel superior to them in some way or another. It’s not about you, it’s about them.

Oh I truly can’t wait to see Marvel taking on these stories. X-factor and Inferno might be my #1 on the list. One thing for sure that I’d like to see on screen is the Acolytes. Very well said, though.

I agree wholeheartedly. I always wanted to see Marvel filming the INFERNO story. Something similar like @lorna-magnus stated a couple years ago. Here is her link (Malice) describing how the film should be played with Polaris as Malice. I thought it was cool and this was in a conversation of one of my replies to a troll. Don’t ask me just read :)

I also can’t wait for the X-Factor and of course, the Krakoa. I’m glad Fox didn’t screen all those above:)

I’m so excited for Marvel taking over. I’m sure @marvelentertainment will use Lorna in many stories in the forthcoming years.They already saw how good Lorna is in The Gifted and many fans are in love with her. Last year (2018) it was an excellent year for Lorna with many promotions all around the Marvel industry and Fox. Including fans art. I’m going to do a 2019 very soon :)

1. Polaris is far from being an icon on screen. It took her how many years just to be seen on screen? About 15+ years 2. It’s funny how most of you Polaris stans consider storm a copy of her but at the end of the day storm is more well known. It took Polaris “15+” (not to mention her cameo in DOFP or in cartoons which it seems you know nothing about Marvel) years but look it how badass she is while Storm was treated like crap in all the films she’s been. There were no badass in her appearance let alone in her last film of Apocalypse. Oh, and that line she told Toad was horrible, just saying. Jean, on the other hand, has more screens than Storm could ever had in all movies combined. Where do you see Storm in the Dark Phoenix? Storm has always being treated as a c list on films. But Polaris on the The Gifted is more of an A list.

You have no idea what Marvel has in mind for the X-Men in the MCU. I’m sure Marvel’s plans is to introduced the original X-Men and sorry but Havok and Polaris happened to be part of the original. Or better yet, the silver age. Not Storm.

Storm might be what ever you think she is, but she will never take Polaris place as the second female of the X-men. And what make you think Polaris is not well Known? Have you, yourself been watching The gifted? Or reading any Comics? I can see you applauding while watching The Gifted but here you only being a hypocrite. Storm is an icon. She was the main Marvel woman in the 90s hint why she went up against Wonder Woman. She’s also the one of the most famous if not THE most famous black superhero. Secondly if you genuinely believe Polaris making a silly little cameo in DOFP is something to compare to Storm you’re fooling yourself. While you’re right about the fact Storm has been butchered in the movies but she still appears and rather it’s good publicity or bad Her character still becomes more popular.

The original x men is always associated with jean,Scott,hank,warren and Bobby. It rarely if not ever features the two lessers (havoc and Polaris) .

And storm not appearing in the dark Phoenix saga as much makes total sense because the story should focus more on Scott and Jean. At the end of the day storm appears and is apart of one of the most favorite comic book stories to date while Polaris barely made any appearances. I’m sure when the Mcu gets their hands on the x men they’re eventually gonna redo the Phoenix saga (the correct way) and I bet Polaris isn’t gonna make one appearance because she’s irrelevant. It’s funny how you downplay storm importance and legacy as a character but Polaris has been around longer and has nothing to show for herself and has as much impact as Callisto if we’re being honest.

You may consider storm a second rate Polaris but storm is still more known,iconic,legendary and Has a bigger name in the comics than Polaris does. It’s just facts. It doesn’t matter how many tv shows her character is represented well in, She’ll never reach storm status PERIOD 💆🏾‍♀️

Can I eat my dinner lol. Storm is only famous for being claustrophobic. She’s famous for being a lesbian. She’s also famous for being a wall paper for Black Panther. Storm is famous for all the things Claremont did to her comparing to other characters. Lets not forget X-treme X-men. She was dismantled by Claremont.

I can see you don’t really read comics, only speculate everything but that’s ok. Polaris was the main Marvel woman in the 90s hint why she was the badass in the X-factor. She also was the leader on many occasions but unlike Storm, she always step up for what is right. Look at Storm in the IvX. She’s not even the leader in the era of 2017 and 2018. Marvel picked many females leaders during that era and Polaris was one of them. Storm was not the leader of Gold but Polaris was the leader in Blue. Storm for being such an “Icon” she was excluded. We both know Storm can’t beat Wonder Woman for shit. So no contest!  A cameo count. I don’t see why not, really. Storm appearing on screen didn’t help her to be “more popular”. The more appearances she had, the more she kept going down the drain.

When the MCU gets their hands on the X-men, it will be completely different. You can’t predict Polaris future by saying she wont be in the rebooted Phoenix. Only that she’s for sure will be in the MCU. Even though I rather and like her in the The Gifted, honestly. It’s way better than any other x-movie combined. The Gifted is more of an X-men movie than the actual X-men’s film. Storm appearing in the movies are irrelevant, because even with her screen time, she’s still not an icon or treated like one or even popular. And again, the line about what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning…should have never been spoken on screen LOL. Storm not appearing in the dark phoenix is not an excuse to exclude your suggestion about “how Storm is an icon on screen and in comics” because you and I know Storm in the films is useless. I want FOX to give her the opportunity to shine on film, but it is a sad or regrettable fact that Storm was always useless in every films she was in. Storm is too mainstream when it comes to movies. You know… doesn’t stand out, may be considered boring, and thus do thing simply. In the comics she was also treated badly for her status LOL. I mean, look at the Extraordinary X-men. She was written as incompetent.

Polaris, on the other hand, is a badass. She’s shining like no other character on screen. Aside from Magneto, of course. Lets be honest… you wish Storm was treated like Polaris in The Gifted. We all know that’s a fact. The original X-men are always associated with the 7. Havok and Polaris. I know because I read comics. They were the last mutants to join the X team. They are the second line up while Storm is the third. Don’t forget the Krakoa, where you can see the original x-men being captured. Also, in The Hidden Years, you can see who are the original x-men. Polaris has been around, trust me. And there is a reason why she’s still around. Funny how you like to downplay Polaris importance legacy as a character who’s been around for 50 years and went through hardship more than Storm could ever have. She is a survival who managed to stand stronger than her father. Storm is not the only kick ass, and never will be.

It doesn’t matter what you say because Polaris is reaching higher popularity. She’s very popular around the globe. I’m talking about China, Brazil, UK, etc. Thanks to The Gifted, Polaris is giving the opportunity to shine like never before. Thanks to many writers out there who gave Polaris the opportunity to shine through many events. You only wish Storm were put in a high pedestal like this one here

This was in Comic-con San Diego FYI. This place was pack as HELL. People from all around the world. She’s very well known. Just don’t hate. She didn’t run through many costumes and doesn’t called herself Polaris and gain the Mistress of Magnetism tittle for the past 50 years for nothing. There were many fans who already cosplayed many of her costumes. Even the one from The Gifted…. whether her Gothic clothes or her prison clothes LOL. Still hasn’t seen any fans of Storm wearing her new costume from any x-film costume. Only the usual one.

ANYONE can reach’s Storm status. Even Captain Marvel gives Storm 10 time a kick ass. That’s not even including Jean Grey, Mystique, Scarlet Witch or Black Widow. I don’t think Storm will ever reach Polaris statue like she did in The Gifted, PERIOD! Once Marvel takes over the x-franchise, my advise to you is, don’t shit on yourself when you see Polaris in the MCU.

Disney owning the rights back has nothing to do with Lorna losing anything. Besides, now they can use Lorna more often in many things since it seems back then they were protecting her or keeping her away from the eyes of FOX (even though The Gifted is just one of many Marvel TV properties).

I don’t fear or think Disney/Marvel are going to take her parentage away from her. Her parents are dead and Magneto is the only family she has and she was introduced as Magneto’s daughter in her first appearance to begin with. EVERYBODY now knows Polaris is Magneto’s daughter and even The Gifted show hinted at the obvious. Marvel can’t just throw away Lorna’s origins and I don’t think Marvel has done that to any of the characters. The father and daughter Its too ingrained in their character to deviate from their path. So I don’t see what people are worried about.

As for the twins, I don’t think Disney/Marvel is ever going to retcon the twins back to Magneto even though that’s what they were in the first place…a retcon. So Marvel retconned them once AGAIN.

I’m suggesting as Magneto saying “No” as to he’s not alone and that he still has one biological daughter which is Lorna Dane aka Polaris aka Mistress of Magnetism. Not only were the twins retconned from their parentage but they also made the twins non-mutant.

Of course (in people’s minds), now that Marvel Studios can say the word mutant, It would be easy to make them Magneto’s kids, but making them mutants again would be a bit tricky. Even with Disney now owning Fox there’s no reason to change this, especially with Pietro and Wanda’s origins already established that their parents were killed by a bombshell. Magneto and the twins aren’t related in the movies and I don’t think it would work trying to change it, especially with Quicksilver already gone. I don’t think Quicksilver would be in the new Scarlet Witch tv show. We already know that the X-Men are going to reboot after the Phoenix movie. Ever wonder why it’s taking too long to release the New Mutants or Phoenix’s film? Probably Disney holding things back and hopefully Disney won’t destroy it.

Anyway, after discovering Magneto was not their father, they went in the search of their true parentage and this is what they discovered.

They ended up being a creation and Marvel kept Magneto and Polaris out of their relationship. That wasn’t the only twist in this comic. It turns out that Wanda and Pietro have a sister named Luminous. I don’t think I need to highlight the benefits of all this. But Marvel’s intention was to give Lorna all the room for herself.

As for why their origins are being altered at all, the prevailing theory is that Marvel wants to make the comics more like the movies. Now that both the comic book and movie versions of the characters are no longer mutants, it would seem that’s no longer a problem for them.  

One thing I want you people to be clear after reading this is that I am not the company. I am not the one who destroyed Magneto’s family nor intend for this to happen. But many fans out there (including me) were outraged how Marvel separated the family and eventually people started realizing that the twins never made sense as Magneto’s kids. The twins never liked Magneto and always hated him while Polaris was always the contrary. I believe that’s why Marvel made it official for the magnetism family.

The twins might not be… canonical family. Alternately they are family but not like we wanted them to be. For example Marvel always had Magneto killing his “children”. He killed Pietro in the House of M

He also killed Scarlet Witch in Old Man Hawkeye

Not even in the alternate universe can they get along without killing each other. There is not even one panel showing Magneto killing Polaris. I don’t know what Marvel is implying but I do know with Polaris Marvel has a different view as Magneto’s daughter.

Marvel always has Magneto and Polaris interacting and understanding each other very well (not only physically but emotionally) and without killing each other.

Lorna has always sided with her father despite their beliefs.

Not too long into X-men Blue, she teamed up with her father and helped him to carry out his plans.

They even went out for dinner together like father and daughter would normally do. The twins never had this and don’t ask me, ask Marvel..

Together they linked each other’s power and destroyed Mojo’s broadcast.

Even in the alternate universe, she can be found by her father’s side helping him.

But most importantly, Magneto got to meet his daughter when she was a toddle while he met the twins when they were already adults. 

He knew who his daughter was all along but he didn’t know anything about the twins til later on only to find out they weren’t his. What I’m trying to say is Disney/Marvel always put these two bonding together as a father and daughter would be and that she’s obviously the only true heir. On the other hand, Marvel always put the twins at war with their “dad” and hating, killing, dismantling each other. Magneto never damaged Polaris like he damaged the twins. I’m all for Marvel restoring the family back together because even retconning them back, it will never take away Lorna’s right to her father’s (throne) legacy. Lorna is Magneto’s priority because in Wolverine and The X-Men (cartoon), Polaris was the one to carry on his legacy.

Everything is canon. Polaris being Magneto’s daughter is canon. The twins are not Magneto’s kids is canon. Magneto loves Polaris more than the twins is also canon. Marvel treating the twins like crap as well as Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, etc are all canon.
